SQL Server Integration Services Tutorial - Introduction
Microsoft Integration Services (SSIS) is a
platform for building enterprise-level data integration and data
transformations solutions. You use Integration Services to solve complex
business problems by copying or downloading files, sending e-mail messages in
response to events, updating data warehouses, cleaning and mining data, and
managing SQL Server objects and data. The packages can work alone or in concert
with other packages to address complex business needs. Integration Services can
extract and transform data from a wide variety of sources such as XML data
files, flat files, and relational data sources, and then load the data into one
or more destinations.
The following articles provide one with synopsis of MSDN articles. They also provide a visual understanding of the SSIS concepts with sample examples. For detailed information, we can always refer to MSDN articles or other websites.
The articles explained are using BIDS in 2008 R2, but these should apply to SQL Server Data Tools in 2012 similarly. Cases where differences exist, we will mention them and applicable steps will be discussed.
Technology used: Business Intelligence Development Studio for 2008 R2 / SQL Server Data Tools for 2012.
